Granny’s

Once again, I have started another crochet project even though I have a ton of other projects that are unfinished. This time I am starting a good ole fashioned granny square blanket.

My mom and step-dad came to visit over the weekend for my birthday. My mom and I were talking about how it’s nice to be able to not worry about making money in our Etsy shops and focus on a fun project we love to do. I brought out my Stylecraft yarn to show her. I was trying to figure out a good project to do with the yarn, which I have a ton of! I have been debating a ripple blanket but haven’t been that excited about it. Also I have heard the color planning through out the blanket can be difficult, which is something I struggle with in general! So I decided why not start a granny square blanket. Each square can be completely different and still look great when it’s all put together. My mom compares it to patchwork quilts.

Well I got started and did five squares yesterday! The best thing I decided to do? Join as I go! This is the way to do it folks. It’s already looking like a blanket and is saving me so much time. It’s the instant results that are so satisfying.

I think I’m addicted! I’ve got granny’s on the brain

It’s been fun just focusing on one square at a time as far as putting colors together. There are so many combinations you can do.

I got organized right off the bat. I taped a little piece of yarn to each label so I know which color is which. I wish I would have done this with my other blanket!

These are the colors for my next square (which I actually crocheted between taking these pictures and posting this!) They just work up so quickly. I am loving it! I’m hooked on granny’s.

Now I need to somehow step away from the granny’s and still work on the million other projects I have going. I think I have a problem…

………………..

I thought I would share a birthday present I got from my mom. She sewed me these two awesome pillows! I have been wanting to put more color in our living room so these were perfect.

So thanks mama for adding more color to my life

  1. I love the color combos that you have used for the granny squares so far. I've never used Stylecraft yarn before, I might have to try it out. :)

  2. You pick out great colors! I'm working on my granny blanket too. I put it away during Christmas and almost forgot what hook size I was using!

  7. Oh my goodness, I'm loving the look of your blanket already and I love the idea of mixing it up. Your squares are so different and yet really lovely together.

However, thank you SO much for posting your organizing strategy. The yarn taped to the tag is brilliant. It's also one of those "so simple, why didn't I think of it?" ideas, but clearly I hadn't thought of it, so THANK YOU!

  9. I also love the join as you go.
And it is such a great idea to save the color of the yarn together with the label, for future reference. I will remember that!
It is goingto be a beautiful granny blanket. Cheers!
