A New Home

I don’t know about you, but I struggle with finding the best place to keep my current projects I am working on. I have tried many different things. Baskets of all sizes, my crochet bag I made, Michael’s or Joann’s bags, and even plastic bags. Nothing seemed to work after awhile. Stuff would fall out, it would be too big or too small, it wasn’t sturdy enough, or it was hard to store away when I’m not using it.

My good friend Rachel came to visit a couple months ago and took me to a store called Gordman’s. Wow is that place cool! Lots of decorating stuff and anything else you can imagine. I loved it. Fast forward to Easter weekend when my Mother-in-law came to visit. I decided to take her there (along with a couple other stores, which is fun). She loved it too!

As we were walking around, we spotted these canvas feeling fabric baskets. It was exactly what I was looking for to keep my projects in!

Check it out

It’s nice and deep, sturdy, and has a big opening at the top. I can just keep my yarn in the basket as I’m working so it’s not going all over the place. I also need to keep in mind little child hands trying to grab at my stuff.

I also love the pattern. It’s really pretty

So far this basket has been working great! I hope this one will be a keeper

What do you use to keep your current projects in?

  1. I don't know its brand or where it came from, but a friend of mine got me a pretty cool yarn project tote for my bachelorette party gift last year (OK, so we're a bit nerdy...). It is a round fabric bin very close to the size your new one appears to be, but it has a zippered lid. The great thing about the lid is it has a slit in the top so you can feed your yarn through! Then it stays in place and gets controlled much more easily. Around the sides of the bin are pockets to fit smaller things--hooks, notions etc. I don't use those pockets because I have a 3-ring binder for that kind of thing. In my binder I have dividers to keep printed patterns separated by type, then I use pencil bags that go in the binder to hold loose items like hooks, needles, stitch markers, small scissors and the like. I prefer to print my patterns so I can mark on them, check off rows, etc., so it's a great way to control all the sheets lying around.

  3. Great find! It's very pretty. I do the bag and basket thing myself, but I'm always looking for something better.

  6. Right now I'm using 2.5 gallon freezer bags. I like that it is see thru. I have multiple WIP bags that I store in a larger bin. I may get a bin just for WIPs. I really like the tote that Danielle described.

  9. I have the exact same problem and everytime I buy a new bag or box I think it will solve my problems... I think I have a red polka dot one of these which used to be home to wool, but I think it's full of socks now!

  10. These days I use plastic grocery bags. If the project is smaller, I use a 3 quart freezer bag.

I have thought about getting a project bag. I fear that it would make me look like a bag lady, since I carry a purse and a second bag already.

  12. I always have more then one project in the works because some are easier to do while traveling then others and my trick is to put the folded pattern in a ziplock type bag with the yarn. Then I can grab and go to either a kids game, car trip or to work. Keeps everything together without makeing a mess out of it.
